Classii.mu のローンチを迎えて
はじめまして、Classii.muのファウンダーの小林巌生です。
そして、いつも、Classii.muを利用してくれてありがとうございます。
今日は、Classii.muの開発経緯を紹介したいと思っています。
バックグラウンド
ぼくは、ウェブの黎明期にデザイナーとしてキャリアをスタートさせ、広告のデザインやウェブサイトのデザインを多く手掛けてきました。現在では、情報アーキテクトとして、ウェブとリアルを含めた情報空間の設計、そしてUXの設計に広く携わっています。
クライアントの多くは国や自治体で、公共分野における、オープンデータの推進、デジタルアーカイブの構築、知識ベースの構築などの専門的なプロジェクトも多く手掛けてきました。
公共分野といっても広いですが、とくに、個人的な関心領域でもある都市分野と文化芸術分野にも係わることができており、幸運だったと思っています。
クラシック音楽との関わり
ぼくとクラシック音楽との出会いは幼少期まで遡ります。父親の薦めでチェロを習い始めて、紆余曲折はありましたが、いまでも最も大切な趣味として、練習や演奏に勤しんでいます。
若い頃は練習が嫌いで、ぜんぜん上達しませんでしたから、プロの演奏家になろうとか、クラシック音楽を職業にしようとか、そういうことは考えたことがありませんでした。音楽もわかいうちはクラシック音楽以外を熱心に聴いていた時期もありますし、クラシック音楽と真面目につきあうようになったのは大人になってからですね。
そのうち、クラシック音楽のことをもっと知りたい、もっと楽しみたい、そして、感動をみんなと共有したい。そういう想いがあって、クラシック音楽に特化したデータベースとファンコミュニティを一体化させることを考え、Classii.muを開発するに至りました。
とくに、クラシック音楽ではハイドンやバッハの時代から現代まで、作曲家や演奏家たちによって育まれてきた歴史と文化があります。ぼくのバックグラウンドに引き寄せて解釈すれば、人、作品、街、パフォーマンス、すべての関係が編み込まれた膨大なネットワークグラフがそこにあり、それを紐解いていくこともまたクラシック音楽の楽しみの一つだと思うのです。
これは、終わりのない旅であり、永遠に楽しめる趣味を持つことができた、そういう見方もできます。
Classii.muのミッション
Classii.muではサービスの運営を中心に、ウェブとリアルをクロスオーバーしながら、クラシック音楽の文化の発展に少しでも尽力していきたいと思っています。
クラシック音楽を楽しむ人々は、幅広い年齢層、そして、それぞれ多様な楽しみ方を持っています。そうした一人一人に寄り添いながら、さらにクラシック音楽の裾野を広げて新しい仲間と出会う機会を生み出していきたいと考えています。そのためには、Classii.muの成功はもちろん、志をともにする仲間、そして、ユーザーのみなさんと力をあわせてともに歩んでいく必要があると強く感じています。
Classii.muの未来
Classii.muはまだはじまったばかりです。至らないところもたくさんあることは承知しています。これから、時間をかけて、育てていくつもりですから、どうぞ、気長に付き合っていただければ幸いです。
さて、ぼくのこのコラムでは、Classii.muの運営や開発に関することも書くと思いますが、クラシック音楽について日々考えていることや、旅の中で発見したクラシック音楽に関するエピソードなどを発信していきたいと思っていますので、よろしければ、フォローしてください。

Hello, and welcome.
My name is Iwao Kobayashi, founder of Classii.mu.
And first of all, thank you for using Classii.mu.
Today, I would like to briefly share the story behind the development of Classii.mu.
My background
I began my career as a designer in the early days of the web, working on advertising and website design projects. Today, as an information architect, I am broadly involved in designing information spaces that span both digital and physical environments, as well as user experience design.
Many of my clients have been governments and local municipalities, and I have had the opportunity to work on specialized projects in the public sector, including open data initiatives, digital archives, and knowledge base development.
I have been especially fortunate to engage with the fields of urban design and arts & culture, which have long been personal areas of interest for me.
Relationship with classical music
My relationship with classical music goes back to childhood. I began learning the cello at my father’s recommendation, and although there were many twists and turns along the way, it remains one of the most important passions in my life. Even now, I continue to practice and perform regularly.
When I was young, I hated practicing and never improved very much, so I never seriously considered becoming a professional musician or making a career out of classical music. There were also periods when I listened far more enthusiastically to genres other than classical music. In fact, it wasn’t until I became an adult that I began to engage with classical music in a serious and meaningful way.
At the heart of Classii.mu was a simple desire: to learn more about classical music, to enjoy it more deeply, and to share those experiences and emotions with others.
That desire eventually led me to develop Classii.mu as a platform that brings together a classical music–focused database and a fan community in one place.
Classical music carries with it a rich history and culture shaped by composers and performers from the eras of Haydn and Bach all the way to the present day. From my own perspective and professional background, I see within it a vast network graph woven together by people, works, cities, performances, and countless relationships. Exploring and untangling those connections is, to me, one of the great joys of classical music itself.
In a way, it is an endless journey — perhaps even a lifelong passion that can continue to grow forever.
The mission of Classii.mu
Through the operation of Classii.mu, I hope to contribute, even in a small way, to the continued growth and appreciation of classical music culture, while creating experiences that cross over between the digital and physical worlds.
People enjoy classical music in many different ways, across generations and backgrounds. I hope Classii.mu can stay close to each of those individual experiences, while also helping expand the circle of people who encounter and connect through classical music.
To achieve that, it will take not only the success of Classii.mu itself, but also the support of like-minded collaborators and users who are willing to walk this path together.
The future vision of Classii.mu
Classii.mu is still only at the very beginning. I am fully aware that there are many things that remain unfinished or imperfect. But I intend to continue nurturing and developing it over time, and I would be grateful if you would join me patiently on this journey.
In this column, I will likely write not only about the operation and development of Classii.mu, but also about the thoughts I have about classical music in everyday life, as well as stories and discoveries related to music that I encounter during my travels.
